Centerville Elk Relays

Posted Monday, March 28, 2011 by Mike Hout
It was not the nicest of days for the first track meet.  In fact, it was pretty cold all day.  Yet, at least it wasn't raining.  Coach Schoenberger said it best when she talked about getting home from the meet and spending all evening trying to warm up.  Even the next day she was still attempting to warm up!

Despite the weather, the Miamisburg Viking tracksters still had some good marks and solid efforts to look back on with a smile.  The girls high jump relay impressed everyone by finishing second.  The boys pole vault relay finished third and set a new school record in the process (for a three person team).  The boys 4x1600 meter relay just missed the school record and finished fourth in a tough distance field.  Could Grace Steingass be the biggest surprise of the meet?  She was a last minute substitute for the girls 4x1600 relay.  She not only completed her race, but in the anchor position she passed at least three teams around the final turn and showed some pretty impressive miler skills!

Grace also gave us the quote of the meet.  After she finished her mile she went around from person to person saying "I'm not even tired.  I'm not even tired."

Ask everyone about the line of hundreds of spectators around the water jump for the steeplechase.   They were there for some thrilling leaps and spills and they got some.  A few Miamisburg people were involved in a bit of the drama.

What have I missed?
