Laura Shaw stuns at home invitational and adds two feet to her best ever pole vault!!!

Posted Thursday, April 14, 2011 by Mike Hout
How often can one write about a person who has been vaulting for years but then suddenly adds two feet to her best in one meet?  Not very often.  For this writer, it has never happened.  What a thrill it was to see Laura Shaw suddenly open her wings and fly over height after height after height after height.  When the competition was finally over, she moved up to number three on the all time Miamisburg vault list by clearing 9-0!!!

For the first time in school history Miamisburg has a regional challenger in the boys and the girls pole vault.  In fact, this is the new school record for the highest combined vault for a boy and a girl in the same season.  Last year Jon Garret cleared 14-0 and Kennedy Peters cleared 8-0 (22-0 total).  This year we have Zak Kruer at 13-6 and Laura Shaw at 9-0 (22-6 total).

Other winners for the Vikings include: Darcy Householder in the discus, the boys ands girls 4x800 relay, the girls 4x100 team, Zak Kruer in the 300 hurdles, Jordan Townsley in the 800, Jenna Parlette and Michael Melko in the 3200 and the boys 4x400 relay

The home meet was a thrill as it highlighted a track coach who gave a lot to Miamisburg.  How neat to remember Ralph Bergdoll at the meet and to see him enjoy himself on the infield greeting people.  A number of people won their first medals including Grace Steingass and Stephanie Jensen.  Trinity Meeks had a nice pr in the disc.  Brett Hoefling is pushing 16 feet in the long jump.  Zach Mathis had a personal best in the pole vault.  There were many other good performances.  Check them out at:

You can see more of Miamisburg's marks on Ohio Milesplit where they have a page for every athlete on the team:
