GWOC finals - can you believe we dodged a storm?

What a great night for the GWOC finals.  Alerts were on the radio about crazy winds and storms heading to Cincy.  We were sure some of it would affect us......but, for once, it didn't!  We had a few raindrops but the weather was certainly with us this time.

We had lots of great highlights and the biggest of all had to be the stunning GWOC championship by Zak Kruer in the pole vault.  That a thrilling competition it was but Zak was Mr. First Time at each height and he edged out the big favorite from Wayne.  Did we mention that Kruer also upped his all time best by 12 inches.  He now owns a 14-6 vault and that 15-1 1/2 school record does not look so out of sight anymore.

Another shocker was Trinity Meeks in the shot put.  She upped her seasonal best by several feet and nearly pulled off the GWOC championship.  She was just one inch behind first place.  Her 36-1 moves her to number three on the all-time Miamisburg list.  Great work, Trinity!

Donnie Whyte ran a smart race in a packed 800 field.  Despite all his efforts, he still ended up boxed in on a couple occasions but worked his way out to a big pr that proved to be enough for a new school record.  It was so exciting to see him pass runner after runner on the second lap to end up third.  His time was a very fine 1:57.43.

Other placers included Michael Melko 4th in the 3200, Zak Kruer 5th in the 300 hurdles, Jenna Parlette 6th in the 3200, 6th in the 400 by Ayanna Pringle, girls 4x100 in 6th, Laura Shaw 6th in the pole vault, Darcy Householder was 7th in the discus, Christina Murr 7th in the 100 hurdles, the girls 4x200 was 7th and the boys 4x400 in 7th
