on fire in the first day of the Districts!

Posted Thursday, May 17, 2012 by Mike Hout
How great to see the team ready to roll when everything is on the line at the District meet.  Boys and girls were hitting on all cylinders and showing some Viking pride at the Welcome Stadium track.

Tyler Ikert was not even in the top dozen when he started the discus but moved all the way up into scoring position as he made the finals.  When the dust cleared he finished seventh and brought home some nice points for the Burg.  Lydia Berry also pulled a bit of an upset by sneaking in for seventh place in the high jump.  In the long jump, the athletes were going against the wind all night but Zak Kruer and Cody Hamblin also worked their way into the finals.  Kruer became our first individual regional qualifier when he finished third and Hamblin just missed but brought home some more key points in fifth.  The winds seemed to affect the pole vaulters the most and many struggled including both Centerville guys.  Kruer managed to fight through the breezes to make a first time clearance of 13-0 to win the event.  He wasn't done, though, as he went on to clear 13-6 and 14-0 before giving three good attempts at a new record of 14-10.

The first team qualifier to the district was our 4x800 boys team.  They finished a solid third in the district to score big points and move on to the next level.  The girls 4x800 also ran a nice race and finished sixth in a tough field.

On the track we seemed to do exactly what we need with our qualifying runs.  We had the top qualifiers in the girls 300 hurdles and the boys 4x400.  Other qualifiers to the finals included two girls in the 100 hurdles, two boys in the 400, the girls 4x400, the boys 200, the boys 4x800, two boys in the 800, one boy in the 1600, one girl in the 400 and a boy in the 300 hurdles.

Look out on Friday because Miamisburg is ready to rock and roll!!!
