1st day of regionals and some big points!

Posted Thursday, May 24, 2012 by Mike Hout
We are in one of the toughest regionals in the state.  It is hard to score points in the midst of all the Dayton schools and Cincinnati schools and all the places in between.  But Miamisburg athletes performed well in the first day of regional competition and came away with eleven points to stand in fourth place overall.

The 4x800 team got us off to a good start when they ran a giant season best and stunned a number of higher rated teams to pull out an 8th place and score a point for the team.  Good work Michael Melko, Andrew Denlinger, Corey Dillon and Cody Callison!  Zak Kruer long jumped well but not quite well enough to make the finals.  The boys 4x200 relay team almost advanced.  Ayanna Pringle and Robert Young ran into some stiff competition in the 400 and were unable to advance.  The boys 4x400 team tried to come from behind to make it back for the finals but came up a little short.

Big points on Wednesday came from Zak Kruer in the pole vault who was in the middle of a perfect day.  He made five heights on five jumps for one regional championship.  After winning at 14-3 he had the bar put up to 15-2 to go for the very fine school record held by Larry Jessee and he very nearly got it on his second jump.  He is ready for the state meet and will need all of that good vaulting again in order to hit the podium in Columbus.

Friday we get to see Tyler Ikert throw the shot and watch the M&M boys (Michael Melko and Quentin Mullen) in the 3200.  It will be a great finish to a great meet.
