regionals are done and now there is just one

Just one person left to keep carry the Miamisburg Viking track banner to Columbus and the state meet.  We may only have one left, but we sure had lots of people give their absolute best up until the very end.

One of the highlights on Friday was Tyler Ikert pulling off a big upset and making the finals in the shot put.  He was not expected to be in the top dozen much less one of the finalists.  He gave it a good go and even upped his personal best in the competition.  Good work, Tyler.

Another highlight was watching Michael Melko duke it out with some of the state's best before finishing seventh in the 3200 meter run.  The weather was hot and muggy and it really knocked some runners out.  Michael fought through that to run near his personal best.  Quentin Mullen also gave it a good go but the competition was tough in that 3200 race.

We ended up with 13 points which put us in 18th place.  Not bad for the high level of competition in our region.
Now it is off to the state where Zak Kruer enters with the 9th best mark in the pole vault.  But others have not seen what we have seen in practice and at the meets.  He has a 15 footer in him and if he can get that (or near it) he will be on the podium and scoring for the team!
