amazing Harmon Field story and statistics

Posted Monday, July 02, 2012 by Mike Hout
Mike Hout just received an email from Larry Jessee in which he shares the following:

"Bruce Caldwell of Essx Poles sent me a photo from 1976 at Harmon Field, either just before or after the 76 Games, Terry Porter, 76 Olympian and 73 NCAA  Champ and me vaulting in a Summer All Comers Meet.  I won at 5.50m( 18-1/2) that should be the field record and I am assuming since meets are no longer held there , this one will last  " forever".  Will try to get it scan and email to you and put up on FB."

I learned a number of things from that email:
-there used to be summer meets at Harmon Field
-the field record for the pole vault at Harmon Field is over 18 feet
-the pole vault record for Harmon Field is probably the best field record around these parts
-we had an Olympian vaulting at Harmon Field (Terry Porter in 1976 Montreal Olympics)
-the 2nd best vault at Harmon Field is most likely better than most field records
-we used to have standards that went over 18 feet (current standards go to 16 feet).
-a major pole manufacturer knows about Miamisburg and Harmon Field
